About Millefiori

Millefiori canes are made using different colors of polymer to produce detailed images. It is a precise and tedious process, depending on the intricacy of the desired design, but well worth the effort and patience.

An individual motif is made using a single long 'tube' which contains the desired imagery throughout its length. This tube is then sliced to reveal the design. The technique began in Egypt (c. 1400 BCE) and Rome (1st century BC), where it was known as Murrine, and was revived by Venetian glassmakers on Murano in the 15th century. In today's world we find it in glass, polymer, holiday candy, and even premade festive cookies.
